5Great Water Bottle  May 21, 2010 By M. Anderson
I've used this Ultimate Direction water bottle since the early 90s. They don't leak, which is critical for me since I always forget to take the bottles out of my bike's cages when I shove the bike into the back of my car. The valve is easy to open with your teeth, unlike the small, circular valves made of rubber on some types of bottles. The top has a ring on it: very handy when I yank by bottle out of the cage on a long bike ride. Finally, it has a wide top which makes it easier to fill with ice, and of course clean. I've got several of these, both large and small, and the tops are all interchangable so no more hunting for the right top to the right bottle. One note: UD now makes a new valve system called a Kicker Valve (it's red in color). I'm not a big fan because you have to squeeze so hard to make the water come out, so although it is a good leak-proofed bottle it's not as good as the "old" Classic Bottle IMHO.

5Takes a beating  Mar 30, 2011 By Sierradad
I have had one of these clipped to the back of my climbing harness for 10 years. Constantly scraped, dragged, sat on, dropped in the harshest of granite and sandstone environments and always there when I needed a drink. I bought a new one just in case, but the original seems like its going to go forever.

1Awful smells  Dec 22, 2011 By Eric Y
I received this 26-ounce bottle few weeks ago. Ultimate Direction Classic Bottle

Pros: The bottle design is so attractive.

Cons: Awful smells from inside of the bottle.

After received this bottle, I started to fight this smell. It is worst plastic container smell. It combines normal plastic smell and some strong disgusting smells. I soaked it with white vinegar solution (half water half vinegar)for 2 hours. The smell came back right after the bottle was dry. And then, I used baking soda, smell is still same. After that. I have used dish washing detergent and bake soda for overnight. The smell won't go away. Now, I have opened the lid for about 20 days. This seems to do nothing. This bottle is useless to me.

The labels come attached with the bottle printed "Made in Philippines" and the bottom of the bottle is stamped "Made in Korea". There are few misspelling in the instruction where "valve" spelled as "value".

Final thought, I bought a Thermos Intak Hydration Bottle with Meter, Smoke at same time. It uses Tritan which doesn't smell at all. It is time to shift to a better bottle material now.
