Let me begin by saying there are better bilge sponges out there that are far more absorbent. That being said, this was more for the gimmick of it than a desperate need for a hardcore sponge. It serves its purpose. I use it mainly to wipe down my kayak when I pull it out of the water. If you were taking on a little bit of water from paddling or rain, this bilge buddy is fine. If it were any more than that I'd resort to my bilge pump or probably wish I had a better sponge on hand. It's a fun accessory for the kayak though and worth a laugh.
