5Great, light, inexpensive helmet  Sep 02, 2008 By Mark Ewell "wreave"
I used this helmet for the first time this weekend, on a class 3/4 ascent of the NW ridge of Mt. Lindsey, a 14er in Colorado. The best thing I can say about it is that I wore it easily and never knew it was there. Due to the wind/rain, I wore it over a warm hat - it easily adjusted to fit comfortably, and I wore it for three hours without a second thought until I was out of the rocky portion and back on the trail. It never shifted, slid, otherwise reminded me I was wearing it at all.

Obviously, the real job of a helmet is to protect your head, and I was fortunate not to end up being able to test that part. So, the real-life test for a helmet is whether it will be comfortable enough that you'll actually have it on when you need it. This helmet performed great on that task, and I am glad to have it in my pack.

5Amazing helmet  Jun 29, 2011 By Brandon
As a foreword, I tried on both the Petzl Elios and the Black Diamond Half-Dome before choosing to purchase the Elios.

After using the this helmet for three full days of climbing so far, I am 100% pleased!

It is light-weight, and the way that the suspension is designed, it sits comfortably and securely on your head but does not smother it. While I'm climbing I forget that I'm wearing the helmet, and I can focus on climbing (while knowing that I am protected from falling debris and most impact). This is critical because, as they say, the true test of a helmet is whether you will be wearing it when you need it; this helmet passes that threshold test with flying colors.

What's more, the helmet is strong and durable. The hard plastic shell means that I can shove it in my pack, attach it to the outside, sit it on a rock, let it fall, etc, without worrying that it will break! With so much other else to worry about, it's nice to know that the piece of gear which protects my most delicate part is not my most delicate piece of gear!

My head is on the larger size, and the Elios size 2 fits me wonderfully, but will still fit on my girlfriend's much smaller head if it needs to. The strap adjust easily and the circumference dial in the back tunes the fit even more perfectly; both are easy to operate with one hand (as I often need to do).

Finally, the many color options available are a great plus. Specifically, the orange color that I chose ensures that I am always highly visible, and that I don't ever leave the helmet behind!

Combined with my other experiences with Petzl products, I am beginning to feel more and more brand loyal.

5Works great  Nov 20, 2010 By A. Walker
I use this for Search and Rescue and have had no problems with it. The hardest part was finding a way to attach it to my pack. Fits good and is comfy.

5I love this helmet!  Jan 04, 2012 By SBBAH
The company sent it to me faster than predicted which was a plus. I rock climb outdoors so I use it all the time. It adjusts to my head with the strap in the back ( I have a bigger head and Size 2 fits perfect!), it doesn't shift, and it doesn't feel cumbersome or block my view. Overall a great product and looks exactly as pictured.

5Good lightweight helmet, works for the XL head  Oct 12, 2011 By Michael A. Duvernois
And it's reasonably inexpensive too. I have a hat size of 7 7/8 (XL or XXL) and this helmet adjusted just fine to protect my head. It's lightweight enough and comfortable enough to not require the whole "remove it as soon as possible" problem.
