I really enjoy using this product - I use the "regular" model. As some have noted, it can be a little soft, but that's only on the squeezing (where our hands are typically stronger). Using the extension part of the ball is very challenging and tires the hand quickly. Once you are comfortable BOTH squeezing and extending, then move on to the firm ball. It might seem strange, but once the extension part of your hand is strengthened, I think you'll find the firm ball to be appropriate for squeezing. Also, these things go get broken in after awhile, keep that in mind.

We purchased several of the HandMaster Plus balls. The idea behind the product is terrific, but it is poorly manufactured. The loops that hook around the fingers broke within the first week of use, and a client had the same experience. Returning them for a refund wasn't easy, in fact, I think my assistant is still trying to find someone to take them back.

I got the regular (red) version of this in a climbing comp because I was looking to improve my finger strength. Though it is a decent warm up tool, it's not something I could ever use to build strength. I suppose it would be great for someone with very weak hands, but if you have average strength hands and are looking to build very strong hands I would not recommend this tool. It took me over half an hour of using this on one arm for me to start to feel a burn.

Originally, I wanted to go for the 'Regular' GripSaver Plus, but when I tried my friend's it felt soooo soft. It was like a soft stress-ball which is great for rehabilitation purposes, but I wanted something for 'office-training'. So I decided to go for the HARD edition. It is HARD. I can hardly squeeze it, even though I don't consider my fingers weak.
It would be nice to have something between the regular and the hard version...

Product works as intended, well even.
But the squeezing motion is easily reproduced by squeezing any hard foam ball, which costs far less.
The extension motion, which is what makes this product, can be reproduced using a large rubber band, or a few, which stays in place just as well.
I outgrew this thing in two weeks and now just use to it warm up before climbing.
Verdict: spend your $20 bucks on something else.
