Description

Roctane comes from years of testing scientifically-proven formulas with thousands of elite athletes training for and competing in the most physically-demanding sports in the world. Roctanes advanced formula amplifies GUs original Energy Gel recipe and adds new ingredients to boost your chances of success. It starts with the original Energy Gel's mix of complex and simple carbohydrates that provide quick and sustained energy, electrolytes for replenishment and caffeine to tap more power and diminish pain. From there GU increases the amount of histidine, an essential amino acid, to act as a buffer and slow the energy-sapping lactic acid build-up in muscles. Then they mix in higher levels of citrates (potassium citrate, sodium citrate, and citric acid) to help speed the conversion of carbohydrates into energy molecules and, like histidine, help mitigate acid build-up. They also add more of the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) leucine, valine and isoleucine to serve as another fuel source, aid in recovery and help maintain mental focus and reduce fatigue by limiting the central nervous system's production of serotonin. Finally, they add a new ingredient, the amino acid complex Ornithine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (OKG) which limits the body's tendency to break down muscle protein tissue during extremely hard training and racing days. OKG keeps you going longer and promotes a speedier recovery.

5Worth the extra money  Feb 22, 2010
I didn't want to admit it (because it's double the price), but Roctane does make a big difference particularly for long runs (1 hr +). The amino acids must be the key, because I've used every brand of gel packs, and it really does work (blueberry is the best). If you're doing a run that's under an hour, go for a less pricey gel, because you won't notice a difference and save the Roctane for when you need it.

3Not big on the caffeine  Feb 21, 2010
I havent tried the regular GU, so I wont know the exact difference between caffeine and no caffeine. But from what I know about caffeine and my body this reacted the same way as a cup of coffee. If you are sensitive to caffeine try the regular GU. But I did notice some extra stamina. Not worth the bloated stomach during a run though. Ill try to update it when I try the regular GU with no caffeine.

5Exceptional  Feb 20, 2010
The few races that I've used this product, I have set a personal record. I have tried a lot of different gels... every single one that I could possibly get a hold of. This one has exceeded my expectations. I agree with the previous reviewer that the taiste does leave something to be desired. I have only tried the Blueberry one though. Also the price is significantly more than a standard Gu. I would say that if it doesn't give you amazing results, stick with a standard gu. It's worth a try though. I beat my goal pace by 15 seconds a mile on a 6 mile race the first time I tried it.

3stick with regular gu  Oct 17, 2009
I have not noticed an appreciable difference in my performance with roctane or regular gu with caffeine, and the flavors of the roctane are not appetizing an hour or two into a long run. I have not found the roctane worth the extra cost over gu.

1Too expensive  Sep 08, 2009
I thought I could get the best deal purchasing in bulk and and online, but I just went to my local running store here in Spokane, "Runners Sole" and they have the exact same stuff for 39.99 a box. No more buying it on line for me!
