6 in 1... not 5! Mar 22, 2011

Don't forget about the signal mirror inside the cap top! The lanyard could be used for many things like shelter building, securing a bandage or mending clothing. I know it's not much but it's still there. The compass is luminescent and works well. The flint is small but it does work if you know how to use it. The whistle is loud and hurts my ears. I stuff it with waterproof matches, fire starter and striker. I submerged it for a few minutes and then lit a non waterproof match as a test - no problems with leaks. I got it at Walmart on clearance for a buck.

As long as you understand this is NOT a "survival kit", it's OK.. Apr 12, 2010

Well, don't think this is a survival kit. It ain't. What we have here is a match safe/case with a decent whistle (a good thing). The mirror is too small, and the flint is inadequate. The compass is OK as long as you understand it's hardly for orienteering.
However, it goes around your neck, is lightweight, and it's something you won't feel silly carrying on a run along that well traveled trail you know so well.
There are several versions of this thing, and this is one of the better ones.
Stock it with some high quality matches (and a striker), carry a Swiss army knife and a tiny 1st aid kit, and you're fine if you're not really going in the wilderness.

Decent Apr 27, 2010
By Brian R. Nothing too special. I was just looking for a whistle when I first bought this. I have since found better and smaller whistles without the other items I don't need.
The compass is slow and will give a wrong reading when near any type of metal.
buy the SOL origin instead. Apr 11, 2011
By Jason Coyne Very low quality. A child's toy. Either build your own survival kit, or buy the SOL Origin. I have written an extensive review of the origin.
