5Former skeptic, now a believer  Nov 13, 2010 By Matt White
My wife has had a pair of these for a while, and wore them in her first marathon... She loves them, but I just couldn't see how they could make that much of a difference. I've been upping my mileage for an upcoming race, and started having difficulty with the IT band on my right leg. Tightness, aching, pain, etc... I started stretching much more rigorously (lack thereof probably being the reason I started having trouble in the first place), but I couldn't back off on my mileage too much due to the upcoming race. So, I bought these out of a bit of desperation.

And they are fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Though the stiffness didn't go away right away, I noticed a big improvement in my running efficiency. I've never had any real running training, so my biomechanics aren't that great... These seem to have helped out a lot with that, my stride is much smoother than it was before. The IT band issues have slowly subsided without a ton of rest required, which was the main goal. And it started to get cold where I live, and they are warm enough to keep running as cold as 40F.

I'm also planning on using them as a base layer for skiing this winter.

I'm getting a pair of CW-X Men's Ventilator Running Tights next, to cover summer!

5Banished knee pains!  Feb 23, 2011 By J. Elliott
I have used various brands of running and cycling tights/warmers for years - Pearl Izumi, 2XU, etc. When CW-X tights came out a number of years ago, I was intrigued by the stabylix design. I asked my daughter-in-law some questions - she is a Physical Therapist, Pilates instructor, and is certified in Kineseotaping. She had taped up my knees before various events - triathlons, marathons, and half Ironman - and it had really helped my knees deal with 40 years wear from competitive cycling and running. The pattern of the CW-X reminded me of the tape she used to put on me. She agreed, and said they were like "user installable kineseotape", so I purchased my first pair back then - this is the third pair, and won't be the last. I get about 3 years out of them washing and hang drying, like another reviewer recommended.

For me, they are more comfortable and joint/muscle stabilizing than other products I have tried, and seem to work as well as the professional taping I had done before events. Plus, they come in a variety of fabrics for different weather conditions! I have never tried their summer weight ventilating stabylix tights, but have used these and the 'smart fabric' Insulator version that tries to keep your temperature in a comfortable range - and it works pretty well, while providing even more compression.

Other reviewers have mentioned that these are restrictive and limit knee motion too much, but that has not been my experience at all. Even wearing the maximum thickness/compression version - the Insulator Stabylix - I was able to finish first in my division and in the top 10% of all age groups/divisions in the cycling stage of the last 2 Tri events I entered. While I really wish they would also make these available as leggings for faster T1/T2 times, I think that these are worth a look for anyone serious about their running/cycling sport, and their muscle/joint comfort.

5Boyfriend's not mad at me  Oct 20, 2010 By Bridget
I bought these for my boyfriend. Thus far, we've generally used these for recovery (post-run), but that'll change when the weather cools down enough.

Here's his experience---After a marathon 3 weeks ago, his calves and legs were cramping etc from mile 18 on... When we got home he donned these and woke up not sore. (Definitely different than previous runs). Two weeks later, I conned him into running a super hilly 50k road run--although hurting during the run, these came to the rescue again. To quote him, "I think these pants are magic".

Honestly, I didn't think much about the benefits of compression until he started commenting on how well some calf sleeves worked. Since I'm the one who gets us into these adventures, I'm glad I chose these--he's not mad at me!

Obviously, I'm not ready to compare the different brands--I chose these because he can tend to lose alignment and experience ITB issues. I have Sugoi and CW-X compression pants--have only worn the Sugois so far...Will compare with a diff review on those.

Next test should be a "wear while running" test with a mid-Nov marathon... I'll compare to the current runs and re-post if his attitude changes. Right now, he thinks this is the best gift I could have gotten him. Happy running!

4They really work!  Oct 07, 2010 By B. Ohr
I am a CrossFitter with skinny weak legs. Whenever I use my legs to lift heavy, or do a lot of running, I use these pants for recovery. A lot of people wear them during workouts, but I wear them after, just because I only own 1 pair, don't enjoy doing laundry and don't want to wear dirty pants. So after I shower, I put them on for 4-8 hours or sleep in them. They really make a difference. The first night I wore them, I did two work outs, one with lots of leg work and another with lots of running, and while driving home I could feel my circulation improve in them. If I sleep in them, I wake up and my legs feel fine. My 2 minor complaints is that as a shorter guy (5'6) I need to roll the pants at the waist, which I don't know if it affects the back support purpose of these pants. Secondly, going along with the shortness factor, I find I need to pull the X pattern around my knee as it will occasionally slip down. Otherwise I love this and I would recommend it!

3Jury still out  Jan 27, 2010 By Remydog
I am an avid skier and purchased these to combat problems I have been having with my ITB and knee stabilization. When I first put them on, they seemed like they would be a big improvement over standard long underwear that provide no support at all. Skiing with them is certainly better than without, but I can't say that they are worth the $95 purchase price and there may be other products that do a better job.

There are also a few problems. First, they are not particularly warm, so I end up wearing a thermal layer over them (I normally wear shell pants with thermals when I ski, but thought that these would be warm enough to eliminate the thermals). Next, there is no escape hatch for our guy parts. That means using the head requires a bit more work and mess. Finally, they keep slipping down my waste and the part where my knee is supposed to be centered also slips. I found that this can be somewhat overcome by tucking my t-shirt into the pants and also really tightening the waste tie, but that's a bit uncomfortable. I still find myself periodically having to adjust them by pulling them up over my knees during the day.
