Perfect Choice for Your Only Rope Jul 14, 2009
By Jeff Kraus When I was shopping for a rope for sport climbing, I wanted to find the perfect rope for any scenario that I'd be likely to encounter. For me, that's mainly indoor climbing about twice a week with rare outdoor climbing (I live in Florida so I have to go out of state to get to anything tall enough to climb).
This rope seemed like the best bet. A company with a great reputation, zero sheath slippage, and a UIAA Falls Held rating as high or higher than many others while maintaining a good diameter and decent weight.
Of course, there are lighter ropes out there. Lighter is better, but I also wanted something sturdy, and something thick enough that is still easy to belay on.
Static elongation is a little higher than I'd like at 7.2%, but the dynamic elongation feels about right (31.8%). I recently fell off of a route unexpectedly while clipping and so fell the full distance (about 15 or 16 feet with the slack for clipping), and felt little or no shock from reaching the end of the fall. The stretch of the rope slowed my fall comfortably.
I heartily recommend this rope and would buy it again myself. Although next time I'd probably opt for the bi-colored rope to make it easier to distinguish between the two ends.
