Easily adjustable flip-lock makes all the difference ~ Jan 09, 2010
By Anne Not only are these sized right for smaller adults, but they are also easy to adjust because of the flip-lock. Regarding size: why should a smaller person haul around excess bulk and weight that they will never need? These poles are lighter because they are sized for us smaller folk. Regarding the flip-lock: it is simple and can be adjusted to your own strength and/or ability with the simple twist of a screwdriver. This is a great feature for anyone with a little arthritis in their hands. This system can be adjusted with mittened or cold hands much easier than poles requiring grip and twist. I got these for my mother, who at the age of 89 still takes walks by herself. With her cane she was hunched over and lopsided and moved along rather slowly, with these poles (I added some Leiki rubber "fitness tips" for traction on the sidewalk - they are awesome!) she stands upright, walks faster, gets some upper-body exercise, and even gets to work on her coordination. In addition, she no longer experiences the knee pain that had plagued her on walks in recent times. With all these improvements she now takes walks more frequently than before she got her poles. I don't know why we don't see more cane-users moving to this kind of solution, it has improved the value and safety of my mother's walks many times over.

These are the best hiking poles Feb 06, 2010
By mtnclimber If you don't know anything about climbing/treking poles then just stop looking now and get these. They ARE the best on the market and you will not regret your purchase. The 3-part design with flip-lock adjustments make it super-easy to adjust the pole length, even on-the-fly, as I have often done. And when you need both hands free to negotiate some rock or other terrain, these compact to a very small size and can easily shoved in a pack. Get them.
Nice poles for travel - will fit in a 22" suitcase Feb 09, 2012
By T. Krauska We bought these poles because of their short size. We wanted to be able to put them in our 22" luggage. If you take them apart, the largest piece is 20 1/2". If you keep them as one piece, they will fold down to around 23" which will just barely fit in my luggage.
Them seem to work well for my 61" wife and myself - around 68"
I only wish they came with rubber tips so we can use these inside or on hard surfaces. They want almost $10-$12 for just one "Trekking Pole Tip Protectors by Black Diamond."
I'm going to search my local stores to find something more reasonable in price.
great trekking poles Jul 07, 2011
By Dr. Chun the best part of black diamond poles is the adjustment - a simple flip. the other brand uses twisting mechanism and u can over tighten it. the compact length is also a selling point. but pricey.

Poles and straps Feb 22, 2010
By IdaSight Great working poles. They become short to pack and are easy to extend, and hold securely with the snap fasteners. For my use, the wrist straps are the poles' single draw back. They come securely fastened to every model sold by Black Diamond. The straps are easily adjustable and seem to work well, for the user that needs them. For my use, however, which is hiking over rugged terrain, I'd just as soon not be "tied" to my pole.
After checking with Black Diamond's excellent and quickly responsive customer service, I learned the straps can be removed by punching out the silver pin that holds them in. This way the straps can be re-installed (a tedious job in its own right), rather than cutting them off. The down side is that when they are gone, it leaves a gapping square hole in the top of the handle, which makes them not as pretty but still highly practical for my use.
