Good to have. Apr 19, 2010

I bought some of those poles that you twist a knob to set and they did not hold up well. Then I bought some Black Diamond poles and really liked how they fasten with the clip-like mechanism. Those fold down very short and each pole has 2 clips. Later I found these for my hiking partner (I let her use mine our first time out and... well it was obvious that I was going to need another pair). They don't store in as small of an area but we don't need that. Just having one clip makes it quick to set to length.
I am sure that they have some with a spring and my first ones had that feature but opted for a less expensive version. The spring would be nice at times but really OK for us not to have them.
I would probably look at Black Diamond first before and another type of pole.

Good Trekking Aug 13, 2009

Pole's where as advertized. Very light weight, firm & strong. would recomend for any beginner or first timer. Price is very good, can't go wrong. If you travel buy plane and bag is less than 26" long poles will be considered separate baggage and if you travel on US airlines you'll be charged for extra baggage.

I just got these for christmas and have found them to be very easy to use. They are really helpful on mountain hikes and snowshoeing.
Really nice poles and hold up well.
As advertised. Works fine. Dec 13, 2010
By art43701 Worth the extra price. I followed up buying rubber tips for use where carbide tips would damage walking surface. Better than anything I could find locally. Highly recommend.

Typo - collpased length is 36 inches, not 26 Jun 16, 2009
By Todd C. Williams The description above says the collapsed length is 96.5 cm (26 in).
That's incorrect. It should read 96.5 cm (36 in.
This is a two-piece pole, not a 3-piece, so it doesn't collapse as much.
