5A Worthy Carabiner...  Mar 09, 2009 By Jeff Kraus
I use both this model and a RockLock Twistlock model currently. I really like them both, and although I end up using the Twistlock more often, that's in no way due to any problems I've ever had with this Screwgate. It's just that the two designs are useful for different reasons.

The Screwgate is better suited for one-handed operation. Once the lock has been twisted into the unlocked position, it stays there. The gate can then open and close freely, until you decide to twist the locking mechanism back into the locked position. It takes two fingers to lock/unlock, and then your hands are free to manipulate the gate, items attached to the biner, etc. The downside to this approach is that since the locked and unlocked positions are not drastically different visually, it is relatively easy to forget to lock the biner.

On the other hand, the Twistlock model locks automatically because the locking mechanism is spring-loaded. You twist to unlock, while opening the gate at the same time. Releasing the locking mechanism while the gate is open forces the gate to stay open. It is nearly impossible to inadvertently leave a Twistlock in an unsecured position. But there's a downside to this, too. The locking mechanism on the gate has to be manipulated EVERY TIME you open or close the gate. There is no way to leave it unlocked.

I'd definitely recommend this biner. It's strong, really well built, and feels like it's going to last forever. Personally, as I've said, I usually end up using the Twistlock model. But it's a matter of preference, and certainly not due to any design or manufacturing flaws. As such, it's easily worth a 5-star rating to me.

5easy to use carabiner  Apr 22, 2011 By D. M. Kilbride
I don't climb rock but I have used carabiners the past 30 years while boating, tree trimming, ATV's, railroad switchman/conductor duties. This is fantastic carabiner for the price. I have to wear leather gloves at work and carry large keys for high security locks. Even with heavy leather gloves on this carabiner is easy to use with a nice big non-snagging gate and a stop on the thumb screw.

5Carabiner  Oct 29, 2010 By Buckhunter "lotree"
I am a archery hunter and I needed a carabiner to use on my safety harness while in my treestand. This works great, light weight, quick and easy attachment, yet large enough to work with gloves on. If your a hunter looking for safety in your stand look no further.

4Huge and Strong  Dec 13, 2011 By Katherine Robinson "Know-It-All"
We are not rock climbers but we needed some locking carabiners to secure multiple items to a wall on our porch. This thing is holding up the hammock, the shade sail (which blows in the wind a lot) and a hanging plant. I am pretty sure it could hold up a small car as well, if our wall would support it.

Its about as big as my hand. I know, other reviewers said that, but I was surprised by how large it is.

5great for my boat anchor  Jul 30, 2011 By Carryit
i need to use a snap hook so that i can take my boat anchors off the roap to stow...
*
using non-locking hooks i lost 2 expensive anchors when they opened underwater ....
*
these are great they are big enough to hook through the anchor eye and the rope loop and i can screw the latch down so it wont open underwater and unscrew it for stowing... i like it
