A Beam of Amazing Brightness! Is it Divine? Jul 03, 2010
By Liorr Morrison Wow, what can I say? When this headlight came in the mail, I was really excited. You all know how amazon shopping is: You research your options ad nauseam, until you've found the perfect one. Then you get all excited because you've sort of married yourself to it. Well, that happened with this, and believe me, I want no divorce. You can't tell how bright it is during the day, but at night, it's really amazing. Maybe I've just been deprived of high-quality bike lights, but I was stunned at the brightness of this. My previous Blackburn Quadrant headlight is a joke compared to this "Princeton Tec Eos Bike Maxbright Rebel LED Headlight". It's made from quality materials, and comes with three different mounting options: You can wear it around your head with the included quality head strap, you can attach it to a helmet with an included Velcro strap, and you can mount in on your bike. They all work well. At night, it projects a very wide yet far-reaching cone of intense light ahead of you. I've gotten a strong reflection off of car reflectors over two blocks away. The high, medium, low, and blinking setting options are nice. I like the fact that the blinking mode uses the same level of brightness as the high mode. You'll really get the attention of any oncoming traffic. If you wear it on your head or helmet, you almost look like a moving lighthouse or prison control tower! You can literally see the beam of light! In regard to some of the arguments about whether this light is made to be seen or to see, I honestly think you can see very well with this--not to even mention be seen. Obviously it's not one of those $500+ headlight systems that are meant to light up the road just as a car's headlamps do, but compared to my previous one (which was considered one of the better headlamps at the time), it does the job beautifully--especially if you're an urban rider. On top of all this, it's tiny! You'd never expect such brightness to come from one little LED! When you're approaching a stop or warning sign, the sign flashes with such intensity it almost seems as though the sign itself it backlit. Oh, and it looks awesome, don't you think? Unconventionally cool - a rebel indeed!
Anyway, I can't stop raving about this light. You can probably tell I'm a little obsessed (I still bring it with me from room to room =D ). Listen to all of the reviews. If I could have given it 6 stars, I would have. Get the last one before it goes out of stock! EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

excellent light for night biking/activities Oct 08, 2009
By jarrito i purchased this light at my local Mast General Store about a year ago and have been incredibly satisfied with it ever since. i've only changed the batteries in it about three times, because i use it mostly for biking on the blinking setting. i really like all the modes it has; really bright, bright, dim and blinking. the brightest setting really lights up the road, and i've traveled through wooded areas at night with great visibility. the ONLY downside is that it does drain the battery on the brightest setting after about an hours use. that may also depend on what batteries you use, though. i use normal duracell/energizer batts- never tried lithiums.

Princeton Tec Eos Rebel Bike Light Jan 21, 2010
By Steven Schwartz I use this light both at work and recreationally. It is very bright and runs a long time on three AAA batteries. I have had it in the rain, on the bike and in the freezing cold. Seems impervious. I have it as a backup when I ride the trails. I would be fine for the streets. I also have a Princeton Tec Eos several years old. It is not as bright but has also stood the test of time. These are great lights and very resonably priced.

Great light for mounting on your helmet, and great support from Princeton Tec. Jun 16, 2010
By J. Castaldi I use this light mounted on my helmet, in addition to a light mounted on my handlebar. A handlebar light is important (and required by law in many communities for night riding), but it only points in the direction that your bike is heading. When approaching an intersection, you can't be sure that cross traffic will necessarily see your handlebar-mounted light, and a car's headlights may wash it out. With a second light mounted on your helmet, you can direct that light toward wherever you're looking. The bike is going straight, but you can turn your head to aim the light right at anyone or anything on your sides.
The Princeton Tec EOS BIKE works great in this capacity. It comes with a few different mounts so you can choose whichever one works best for you; I use the velcro strap run through the air vents on my helmet along with the plastic bracket.
The light itself is very bright. At its highest setting, it lights up street signs from half a block away. I have not ridden in total darkness with this light or had to use it to illuminate where I'm going, as my night riding is on well-lit Chicago streets. But I am confident that it gives me an extra level of safety by making me more visible to traffic.
The button to turn on the light is recessed a bit and has a rubberized cover. It's easy to turn on (unless I'm wearing my thick winter gloves), but seems like it would never turn on accidentally when stowed in a bag.
The light has four settings - high/medium/low/flash - and you access your preferred setting with repeated pushes of the power button: one press for high, two for medium, and so on. One thing I like is that after the light has been running for a short while, it only takes one push of the button to shut it off no matter which mode you're in. Let's say you're riding with the light set to medium (which is accessed by two button presses when you turn on). When you finish your ride and turn the light off, just one button press shuts it off - you don't have to cycle through low and then flash modes to get to off. It's not a huge thing, of course, but it's a pretty smart feature which I appreciate in a moderately priced light.
I've used this light for several months now, and the only issue was when I dropped my helmet and broke the mount. Totally my fault. I emailed Princeton Tec to ask about buying a new mount, and they got back to me very promptly and sent me a replacement mount for free. With that great customer service and my overall satisfaction with the light, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one should mine get lost or stolen.

best mount for commuters Jan 16, 2010
By Andy K I have yet to find a brighter bike light that has a mechanically reliable mount. Most lights seem to use a rubber strap or band. This one uses a solid stiff plastic band similar to the attachments many rear lights use on bicycle seat-posts. Plus, it has a screw with a knob for hand-tightening it at any vertical or horizontal angle.
Finally, the light can be removed from the mount for taking it with you into work using a snap similar to those seen on rear bicycle lights.
I have commuted a short 2 mile route to work on well-lit streets for 2 years. This is a great light to be seen by cars. However, I got 2 of these for more safety.
I like that the light is waterproof to 1 meter for riding in the rain.
