OK, but may not work for some people Sep 28, 2010

I wanted a keyholder for my running shoe that wasn't as big as all the ones that are made to hold credit cards, etc. I couldn't tell much about the size of this one from the photo so I took a chance on it.
PROS: It is smaller than most of the other ones I've seen. It is thin, light, and the styling disappears into the shoe/laces so it doesn't look like you have a velcro wallet strapped to your foot. It doesn't flop around, and I don't notice it while I'm running.
CONS: See those diagonally cut corners at the bottom? Those are holes. If you put your key in with the pointy end down, the shaft of the key wiggles out through one of the holes while you run, so you end up with an inch or so of key sticking out through the bottom of the pocket. If you put the key in so the the pointy end is up, it means the fat end of the key has to go in the skinny end of the pocket. It works fine with my key, but the key to my wife's car is bigger than mine, and the head of the key is too wide to go all the way to the small end of the pocket. That leaves enough key sticking out of the top of the pocket that it can't close. She originally wanted a pocket like this one after she saw mine, but it turned out to be totally unusable for her.
I rated it a 3 because it does what I need it to, but it doesn't seem like the design was thought through very well and it won't work for some people. FYI, the total exterior length of the pocket from end to end is 3.25 inches.

The pocket is durable and stays attached to the shoe for extended runs (tested up to 6 miles). However its shape precludes it from holding the two things I really need it to hold (other than my keys): a credit card and a metro card. If it weren't tapered, it would be big enough, so the fact that it is just barely too small makes it really frustrating. Who wants to carry a wad of cash when two thin cards will do the duty w/o the bulk?

An easy way for the manufacturer to turn this from a disappointment to a useful item would be to make it just a little under an inch wider. As it is, it only provides room for a key. A little wider and you could actually put a real card sized I.D. in it.
It is, however, well made. But, alas, really too small.

I do a lot of trail running and have this one on several shoes. The size is perfect for me, the look is really good, so I would say I am satisfied.
But the attachment system could have been done better. It may get loose because of debris entering under the bottom velcro flap. I almost lost it once running through a stretch of wet dense grass but noticed it just about time. And I actually lost it once, but conditions were not typical even for the craziest trail runner. My shoes were completely under water most of the run.
Overall, I will continue with using this product.

I LOVE this shoe pocket! It is PERFECT for storing money, a credit card and/or I.D., and a key without the inconvenience of carrying a purse or wallet. You have what you NEED, yet you could forget that you're carrying it! It is PERFECT for sports events or running, but I think it is perfect for shopping or ANY time. It is so lightweight than you will not even notice it. The closure keeps your valuables very SECURE. It's the BEST!
